According to an article published by researchers from the Medical University of Michigan in the journal Pediatrics, the main causes of childhood obesity - the number of hours spent watching television, and school lunches.

Previous studies have confirmed that school lunches consist of high-calorie foods with low nutrient content.

In a study in Michigan within the project “Healthy School " was attended by 1,714 middle school students. Although most habits in children with overweight and obesity are the same, researchers found some differences related to sex.

The girls, who drank two cups of milk a day, were less likely to be obese. Perhaps this is due to the fact that milk replaces the sugary drinks. Was less likely to be obese and boys who played sports.

It was also found that girls are obese spend the most time in front of computer compared to other groups. Obese boys more engaged in computer games compared to those with normal weight.

Lead author, Professor Cardiologist. Elizabeth Jackson believes that more research is needed positive impact that could have improved school lunches and reducing time spent watching TV, on the health of adolescents.

Obese children who participated in the study were poor indicators of the cardiovascular system, low HDL (good) cholesterol, high triglycerides, high blood pressure and a lower level of fitness compared with children of normal weight.

Prof. Jackson believes that cardiovascular disease does not begin in adolescence without a reason - there are factors that can help determine in this age of those who may have a higher risk of developing a variety of problems in later life.
